Hey Readers! We are using Fatima’s mirror-less Sony A6500, which is a full-frame camera to better the resolution. It’s also much understated, which befits the vibe of the film opening as the plot is that of emotional turbulence. Since there are no dialogues we will be using the Rhode microphone to record ambient sounds such as the sound of the water in the shower. Moreover, this will assist us in recording the voiceover for better quality. Lastly, we will use specific lighting for key-light in shots where we need to accentuate the impact of the emotion.

25 Words Pitch

Hello Readers! Fatima’s literary expertise came in handy when we were supposed to pen our 25-words’ pitch, which is widely recognized method of pitching a film to a production house for funding. The following can be read as our pitch for Rumi’s Protégé. Escaping from the reality of his parents toxic relationship; he comes face to face with his father’s affair but can’t escape this time.

Storyboards

Hi Readers! Supremely excited about this post as our very talented member, Zainab Hyat sketched the storyboard for us to further better how we will shoot the opening. In the following storyboards, the character is seen in the shower; he is interrupted by his mother’s phone call and joins his parents at the dining table. He then travels with his father to his school and goes inside. He realizes he’s left his notebook back in the car, so he rushes to get it only to see his father driving away with another woman. He breaks down and loses himself to dance.

Conventions of Genre

Hello Readers! Now that my group-mates and I are on the same page, creatively, we’re advancing to the technicalities of the project, starting off with the execution that will make Rumi’s Protégé identifiable as the Psychological Drama we envision it to be. According to Zunain, most of these films comprise of slow-paced editing which fits the mood as psychological films require more thought to be put in so that they could be properly understood. Short, fast paced editing is quite uncommon as it does not give enough development to the scene in a psychological drama. Color theory and the palette used for color-grading are also essential. The picture control in the cameras used to shoot the raw footage is set to ‘flat’ which reduces the contrast in the raw footage so that the colors can be easily and more finely manipulated in post-production to create a final product of much higher quality. Screenplay & Script

Hello Readers! The following is the screenplay of our film opening: Scene 1: The protagonist loses himself to a Sufi dance in the shower, fully dressed, breaking down. He’s transported to a parallel universe where he escapes, he sees himself on a swing; albeit that too, is broken. Scene 2: He is interrupted by a phone call from his mom, he gets out of the shower and changes into his uniform. Scene 3: He joins his parents at the dining table for breakfast, who are amidst a heated argument. He quietly has his meal, emotionally numb, yet has tears in his eyes. Scene 3: He sits in a car with his father, the two travel to his school but no dialogue is shared. He places a notebook on the dashboard of the car. Scene 4: He gets off the car and forgets the notebook. As soon as he walks into his institute, he realized his missing notebook and goes back to get it. Scene 5: He gets out to see his father driving out of the parking lot with another woman getting int...

Synopsis

Hey Readers! So my group-mates and I got to work and penned down our synopsis on a paper during school. Nothing more satisfying than being creatively stimulated, creating an opening that will hopefully do well. Fingers crossed!!
